Short answer: UK mattress sizes are small single 75 x 190cm, single 90 x 190cm, small double 120 x 190cm, double 135 x 190cm, king 150 x 200cm and super king 180 x 200cm.
UK bed sizes are different to European and American sizes, so it is worth checking measurements before you buy, especially if you already have a bed frame or bedding.

How big a bed will fit my room?
As a rule of thumb, leave around 60 to 70cm of space down each side and at the foot of the bed so you can walk round it, open drawers and make the bed comfortably. Remember that frames and headboards add to the mattress size.
Storage matters in smaller rooms
If space is tight, a divan with drawers or an ottoman storage bed can replace a chest of drawers altogether. Ottomans lift up from the foot end, so they work well against a wall where drawers would be blocked.
